“Before Pele, football was just a sport. He changed everything. He turned this game into an art, into entertainment. He gave the right to vote to the poor, to black people, and most importantly, he showed Brazil to the world. Football and Brazil were forever raised in importance thanks to the king. He left , and his magic remains. Pele is forever!

“More than a football legend. Simply the greatest athlete of all time, a standard for all generations. May God receive you in peace, king,” wrote former Shakhtar player Fred.

Sadness to say goodbye mixed with immense pride at such a story. Your legacy transcends generations. You will live on next. Thank you, Pele,” said the legendary attacker of the Brazilian national team Ronaldo.

Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo reacted to the death of the football player:

“Simply saying goodbye to the eternal king Pele will not be enough to express the pain that grips the entire football world right now.

He was an inspiration to millions, an example to all yesterday, today and always. Our affection even on distance was mutual.

He will never be forgotten, his memory will live forever in each of us football fans. Rest in peace, King Pele.”

“Yours the legacy will always be remembered. Condolences to the whole family, rest in peace,” wrote Andriy Shevchenko.

Rest in peace,” said ex-England national team player Gary Lineker.

Former UEFA president Michel Platini:

“He was the history of football, the discovery of football, he was football. I was 15 years old in 1970 and I grew up watching him play. My father talked to me about Pele, at school, by the way, I signed for Peleatini. .

Even if we didn't always see him play, we only talked about him. He wasn't a man, he wasn't a football player, he was a football god. I'm very, very touched. This is my life. This my story. This is Pele. This is my dream. I have seen his achievements and always remembered his World Cup in 1970.”

Former German fubol player Franz Beckenbauer:

“Football today lost the greatest in its history, and I lost a unique friend. Pele had three loves: football, his family and all people. The one who played with stars and always remained down-to-earth.”
