The European Parliament adopted a resolution condemning the decision of the International Olympic Committee ( IOC) to allow some athletes from Russia and Belarus to participate in the qualification for the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
This is reported by AP.
444 deputies supported this resolution, 26 deputies opposed , and another 37 abstained.
The document emphasizes that the permission for Russians and Belarusians to compete under a neutral flag “contradicts the multifaceted isolation of these countries and will be used by both regimes for propaganda purposes”.
European Parliament called on the 27 EU countries and the entire international community to put pressure on the IOC to reverse the decision “which is a shame for the entire sports world”.
We would like to remind you that the International Olympic Committee recommended that the representatives of the Russian Federation and Belarus be admitted to the competition in a neutral status, provided that they were not seen actively supporting the war in Ukraine and comply with doping legislation.
