Five Slovaks participated in the tournament this season.
The Slovak national ice hockey team will not call representatives of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) to the team for the World Cup-2023.
This was reported by the assistant head coach of the national team, Peter Fruehauf.
“In recent weeks, we had long debates with the players from the KHL. They always represented our country with joy and pride. They have enough indicators to fight for participation in the final application for the World Cup.
During the discussions, we came to a unanimous opinion that for the calm course of preparation and one hundred percent concentration of our national team at the World Cup, it will be better if we exclude from this squad players of the KHL”, – Tribuna.com quotes Fruehauf.
Five Slovaks played in the current KHL season – M Ihal Krzysztof (“Admiral”), Christian Jarosz (CSKA), Tomas Yurcho (“Kunlun”), Adam Lishka (“Severstal”) and Michal Tchaikovsky (“Siberia”). The league features Russian clubs and one Chinese club (“Kunlun”).
The 2023 World Cup will be held from May 12 to 28. Russia and Belarus will not play in the tournament due to the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
