A "gift" for Valentine's Day: scientists expect a magnetic storm on Earth

On this week, the Earth can be covered by a magnetic storm. And it will take place on February 14-15, starting on Valentine's Day, according to data from the space weather tracking site Spaceweather.

It is noted that the magnetic storm will be weak, category G1. However, it may not be unique, since several coronal mass ejections are brought to Earth at once. They were ejected by the Sun during a powerful X-class flare and as a result of the appearance of an erupting magnetic filament. Both events took place on February 11.

Magnetic storms are disturbances of the Earth's geomagnetic field with different duration and intensity. They are associated with streams of charged particles emitted by the Sun. Magnetic storms can cause interruptions in communication, as well as affect the well-being of elderly and weather-dependent people. In particular, they may experience headaches, dizziness, nausea, joint pain, fatigue, insomnia.
