A short film by Ukrainian student animators was selected for the festival in Cleveland

He is an Oscar qualifier.

A short animated film created “Cherry Orchard” by Ukrainian student animators will take part in the International Film Festival in Cleveland, which is a qualifier for the “Oscar”. The event will take place as a mixed festival from March 22 to April 1, 2023 at Playhouse Square in downtown Cleveland, and online as CIFF47 from April 2 to 9, 2023, according to the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine.

The film was shot on the text of Taras Shevchenko's poem “The cherry orchard around the house…”. 20 students of the 2nd year of animation directing at the Ivan Karpenko-Kary Kyiv National University of Theatre, Cinema and Television worked on its creation in February-June 2022.

Cleveland International Film Festival is one of the 34 film festivals in the world, at which the selection of candidates for the “Oscar” in three categories of short films is held. Films that won the jury awards for the best animated short film, the best short documentary film and the best live-action short film will be eligible to apply for the 2024 Oscar. ” and “Waking in Silence” received awards at the Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale).
