The burial was made between 600 and 900 AD.
Archaeologists of the National Institute of Anthropology and History of Mexico (INAH) discovered several ancient mounds with decorations in the state of Temaulipas. According to Heritage daily, they were found during preparatory work for the construction of the highway.
Scientists excavated two of the four mounds and found that they contain remains buried between 600 and 900 AD. In total, the team discovered 12 burials, located mostly in the same place, and all of them apparently correspond to the cultural tradition of the Ustecs.

< p>The Huastec civilization is a pre-Columbian Mesoamerican culture that occupied an area on the Gulf Coast that included the northern part of the state of Veracruz and the neighboring regions of the states of Hidalgo, Queretaro, San Luis Potosí, and Tamaulipas.
The Huastecs often built round barrows in large urban centers. One of the barrows found is 20 meters in diameter and was built of limestone and basalt, which is believed to have been brought from afar. In it were found the remains of three adults, as well as flower-shaped shell ornaments, obsidian blades and green quartz earrings.
The diameter of another barrow is 30 meters, in which the remains of an adult were found, placed inside a limestone structures. Similar burial practices were observed in other regions where the burial of the Wastecs was found.
