According to ZN.UA, the U2 frontman from the first days of the war was absorbed by the terrible events in Ukraine and at the end of February he worked on the musical translation of Taras Shevchenko's poems in English translation. And the idea of his arrival in Kyiv with a concert came from Viktor Pinchuk: the businessman and Bono have been friends for many years. The singer was ready to receive an invitation from President Zelensky. And, as ZN.UA learned, U2 did not take a penny for their performance in Kyiv.

It should be noted that the leader of the Ukrainian band “Antibody” Taras Topol later joined the U2 participants. Here is what he said in a comment to TSN about the birth of an impromptu duet with an Irish rock band.

“History incredible. Some time ago, Ed Sheeran wrote to me that he wanted to share my phone number with Bono from U2. Of course, I agreed later, namely yesterday, around noon, I called Bono and said that he was going to Kyiv with a concert and would be here in 12 hours. And he wants Antibodies to sing the song Stand by me with him. Moreover, he said that while we are singing, Edge will play the guitar, improvise, and I will be able to say whatever I think is right and address anyone in this world with the necessary message. Of course, we agreed, “said Topol.
