Boris Johnson is not against competing for the post of NATO Secretary General

Former Prime Minister of Great Britain and a great friend of Ukraine Boris Johnson will apply for the post of NATO Secretary General. He himself announced this on the air of the telethon “Edyny Novyny”.

When asked by journalists whether he plans to lead NATO, Johnson answered that he was thinking about it.

“Great idea, very successful . I have to announce that there is such an idea. I consider myself as a candidate, this is a very important position. I hope this time I will be flattered,” the ex-prime minister admitted.

He recalled that the former Italian prime minister Mario Draghi stated that he should become the next NATO secretary general representative of the European Union.

“I don't agree with him,” Johnson stressed.

The British politician is convinced that Sweden and Finland will soon join the Alliance and expressed confidence that Ukraine will will itself become a member of NATO.

“It is quite obvious that Ukrainian membership is a prospect. It has to happen. Putin debunked all arguments against Ukraine joining NATO. Now they are gone,” he said.

Current NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg plans to leave his post this fall.
