On January 7, Christmas is celebrated according to the Julian calendar. On the eve of the holiday, on Christmas Eve on January 6, housewives must prepare 12 Lenten dishes, the main ones of which are kutya, dumplings and uzvar.

Vareniks with sauerkraut

Ingredients:

  • Water – 150 ml.
  • Wheat flour – 600 g.
  • Sauerkraut – 300 g.
  • Onions – 2 pcs.
  • Vegetable oil – 4-5 tbsp. l
  • Salt – 0.5 tsp l
  • Ground black pepper – to taste

  • Take half a kilogram of flour and add a little salt. Add water and knead the dough until it starts to pull away from the bowl.
  • Dust the worktop with flour and knead the dough well with your hands. It is necessary to do this for 7-10 minutes, at least. Then let the dough rest at room temperature for 20 minutes.
  • Cut a piece of dough into two parts and roll each part as thin as possible with a rolling pin. Using a glass, cut circles.
  • Place about a tablespoon of cabbage in the middle and pinch the edges tightly.
  • Cut one onion into thin half-rings or cubes and fry until golden.
  • Place dumplings in boiling salted water. When they float to the top, boil them for 3-4 minutes.
  • Ready-made dumplings should be sprinkled with fried onions.

Sweet dumplings with apples

Ingredients:

  • Flour – 3 glasses
  • Water – 3/4 glasses
  • Sugar – 1/2 cup.
  • Cinnamon – to taste

  • Knead the dough and roll it out not too much thinly on a floured surface.
  • Peel the apples and cut them into strips. Sprinkle with sugar and let stand to drain excess juice. Sprinkle the apples with ground cinnamon.
  • Place the filling on the dough circles and glue the edges together.
  • Cook in salted water for 1 minute after the dumplings rise to the surface.
  • Carefully remove the finished dumplings from the boiling water and serve.

Lazy lean dumplings with potatoes

  • 350 g of mashed potatoes;
  • 90 g of flour;

  • Add flour, dill and a little salt to mashed potatoes. We knead the dough. To make a long sausage, cut it into small pieces, slightly smaller than classic dumplings.
  • Put the pieces in boiling water, cook for 3-4 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon. Fry the onion in oil, add to the dumplings, mix. The finished dish can be served.
