On February 23, a meeting of the ministers of finance and heads of central banks of the countries of the “Big Seven” countries will take place. G7 financial leaders plan to discuss measures against Russia over its war, Japanese Finance Minister Shunichi Suzuki said on Tuesday, Reuters reports.

The meeting, which will be held in the Indian city of Bengaluru, will be chaired by Japan. It will take place almost a year after Russia invaded Ukraine, calling it a “special military operation”.

The war continues despite a series of punitive measures taken by the G7 and other countries against Russia.

“The main topics of discussion will be support for Ukraine and sanctions against Russia,” Suzuki said at a press conference. “We will continue to work closely with the G7 and the international community to strengthen the impact of sanctions to achieve the ultimate goal of getting Russia to withdraw (stop the war).”

The G7 includes Great Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the USA.

Later a meeting of G20 financial leaders from the world's largest economies will also take place this week. The war in Ukraine and the world economy are expected to be in the focus of the G20 talks.
