The phone numbers and access codes of 1.9 thousand users of the American messenger Signal, called one of the most secure, fell into the hands of fraudsters. This was reported by the Twilio company, which provides phone number verification services to Signal.

The breach occurred as a result of a phishing attack. However, the Twilio company quickly stopped it.

The messenger's service department sent hacked users a message about canceling Signal registration on all devices. To regain access to the account, the user must re-register with their phone number.

At the same time, all users can rest assured that their message history, contact lists, profile information, blocked contact list and other personal data were not affected and remain confidential, because this data is stored only on the user's device and Signal does not store copies of it.

“Among 1,900 phone numbers, the attacker clearly searched for three numbers, and we received a message from one of these three users that his account was re-registered,” the company said.

As previously reported, popular Telegram messenger has launched Premium's paid subscription.
