On Saturday, Norway said it had arrested a Russian citizen with a drone and camera equipment after he was seen taking pictures of an airport in the far north. This is the second such arrest in a week.

Norway is on high alert after reports of mysterious drone sightings near offshore oil and gas drilling platforms owned by a major energy producer.

The explosions at the Nord Stream gas pipeline in the Baltic Sea last month are widely believed to have been the result of sabotage.

A 51-year-old Russian man, whose name has not been released, was arrested in jailed on suspicion of operating a drone in Norway, which he admitted to.

“Police confiscated a large amount of photographic equipment, including a drone and a stash of memory cards,” the police in the northern city of Tromsø said in a statement. .

Among the confiscated materials were photos of another airport in the northern city of Kirkenes and Bell helicopters of the Norwegian military, the report says.

Police of Tromso reported that the Norwegian police security service was involved in the investigation.

The Scandinavian country, along with several other Western countries, banned Russians and Russian organizations from flying over its territory after the February invasion of Ukraine. Violation of this ban is punishable by imprisonment for three years.
