Pelosi condemned Azerbaijan's attacks on Armenia

The “Peace Treaty” was signed between the countries in 2020, but Azerbaijan still has claims against its neighbor.

Pelosi condemned Azerbaijan's attacks on Armenia

Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi, who arrived in Yerevan yesterday, condemned Azerbaijan's attacks on Armenia in the border zone, calling them illegal, Reuters reports. .

These attacks sparked clashes that killed more than 200 people. Pelosi emphasized: “it was clear that the hostilities on the border were provoked by Azerbaijan's attacks on Armenia.”

Pelosi noted that her current trip to Armenia is especially important in the wake of Azerbaijan's “illegal and deadly attacks” on Armenia.

Another escalation between Azerbaijan and Armenia began in mid-September. Under the rules of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), which includes Armenia, Russia and other members of the treaty would have to take tough measures in response to an attack on an ally. But this did not happen. Among the probable reasons is that Russia withdrew part of its army from the territory of Armenia to transfer it to the war in Ukraine.

After the war in 2020 and the conclusion of the “peace treaty”, Azerbaijanis still have claims against their neighbors. In particular, Azerbaijan believes that the “Army of Defense” in Karabakh are Armenian troops that should not be “on its territory”. In addition, he insists on the earliest possible creation of the “Zangezur Corridor”, which should become a transport artery on the territory of Armenia between the main part of Azerbaijan and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
