From April 28 to 30, Pope Francis will visit Budapest at the invitation of the Hungarian authorities, where, in particular, he will meet with the head of the country's government, Viktor Orban. This is reported by Vatican News.

“Accepting the invitation of the civil and ecclesiastical authorities, Pope Francis will make an Apostolic visit to Hungary, which will take place from April 28 to 30, 2023,” said the press secretary of the Holy See, Matteo Bruni.

The Pope will meet on April 28 with Viktor Orbán, the Prime Minister of Hungary, whose anti-immigrant policy he does not share. During his 41st international trip since his election in 2013, the pope will also meet with refugees, young people, members of the local church and representatives of the cultural sector. As usual during his trips, he will also address the political and diplomatic authorities and lead the mass.

Pope Francis visited Budapest on September 12, 2021, where he celebrated the closing Holy Mass of the 52nd International Eucharistic Congress, after which flew to Slovakia. Since it was not possible to make a full-fledged Apostolic journey then, he promised to make it later. Saint John Paul II visited Hungary twice, in 1991 and 1996.
