Scientists announced the discovery of a hidden passage inside the Pyramid of Cheops in Egypt. It is nine meters long and two meters wide, Science Alert reports.

Egypt's Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Ahmed Issa, said a “pointed corridor” with a triangular ceiling “was discovered on the north side of the Great Pyramid.” . It was found as part of the ScanPyramids project, which was launched in 2015 by scientists from France, Germany, Canada, Japan and Egypt.

The technology is a combination of infrared thermography, muon radiography imaging and three-dimensional reconstruction, which scientists say are non-invasive and non-destructive methods.

The Great Pyramid of Giza is the largest at Giza, standing 146 meters tall. This is the only surviving structure from the Seven Wonders of the World. The pyramid was built about 4,500 years ago, it consists of three chambers and, like other pyramids of ancient Egypt, was intended for the burial of pharaohs.

As the former minister of antiquities of Egypt, Zahi Hawass, who oversees the project, said, “there is a strong possibility… that the tunnel protects something. In my opinion, it protects the real burial chamber of Pharaoh Khufu.”
