Slovakia is ready to hold negotiations on the transfer of 11 Soviet MiG-29 fighters from its forces to Ukraine. This was stated by Defense Minister Yaroslav Nagy at a press conference, Sky News writes.

He explained that these planes are planned to be decommissioned at the end of August. From the beginning of September, the Czech Republic and Poland will start patrolling Slovakia's airspace.

According to Nagy, as soon as the partner forces protect Slovakia's skies, and the MiG-29s are grounded, the country will be able to talk about the future of fighters.

However, the minister emphasized that his state is not so big as to be able to give Ukraine airplanes, so it will require replacement or compensation of their cost from partners. According to him, each MiG-29 costs about 35 million euros.

“We are open to a discussion about donating them (fighters – ed.) to Ukraine, but of course this will require, I would say, a broader discussion about taking into account financial aspects and all other issues regarding delivery, so a decision has not been made yet,” he said Nadzh.

Recall that at the beginning of July, Slovak Prime Minister Eduard Heger announced that Bratislava will hand over its Soviet MiG-29 fighters and tanks to Ukraine. Slovakia expects F-16 aircraft from the USA to replace MiGams transferred to Ukraine.
