British Ambassador to Ukraine Melinda Simmons told whether London's policy towards Kyiv will change after Britain gets a new prime minister. According to her, London will continue to support Ukraine. Simmons stated this in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.

She emphasized that Russia's invasion is an illegal attack on Ukrainian sovereignty and democracy, which are two very dear values for Britain.

< p>“So when Prime Minister Boris Johnson was briefed, it was clear what we would do. We are allies, partners and friends of Ukraine. And we were going to support Ukraine to repel this invasion. And this policy was consistent and clear even before the invasion and throughout the invasion,” she emphasized.

The ambassador added that such a policy is strong and will remain so regardless of who replaces Johnson in office.

“I think that the prime minister feels this as emotionally as politically, and he is a powerful friend of Ukraine. But, again, there is no reason to think that the future prime minister will not be the same friend of Ukraine,” explained Simmons.

She also added that during this crisis, many British ministers have developed friendships and strong relationships with their Ukrainian colleagues.

“Therefore, I am quite sure that this friendship will continue,” she emphasized.

The ambassador also explained whether Britain's policy will change this fall when a new prime minister is in place.

“A lot will change, because many people will take new positions in the government. So it will be necessary to establish new friendships. The truth is that politics remains strong. All ministers and officials will deeply understand it. So, whoever takes office, they will know that part of their job will be to further develop the friendship that their predecessors started,” Simmons said.
