The Higher Anti-Corruption Court ordered businessman Boris Kaufman, who was recently detained on suspicion of organizing a criminal group in Odesa, a preventive measure in the form of custody with an alternative bail of UAH 129 million.

As reported by the Anti-Corruption Center, the SAP prosecutor asked Kaufman to choose a preventive measure in the form of custody without bail, and if bail is to be set, then its amount should be 496 million 200 thousand hryvnias

If Kaufman posts bail, then, according to the court's decision, he will be required to comply with a number of obligations, including not leaving the boundaries of the cities of Kyiv and Odesa, not communicating with witnesses and other suspects, and will be forced to wear an electronic bracelet. At the same time, the probability of the businessman's release from custody is very high, since according to Forbes, his fortune is $220 million.

Activists of the Communist Party of Ukraine point out that Kaufman was supported in court by a former MP from the People's Front, Ihor Kotvitskyi, whose wife took $30 million out of Ukraine in March. Also, Borys Kaufman was offered bail by the director of the tobacco monopoly Tedis Taras Korniyachenko and the general director of Odessa Chornomorets Anatoly Misyura, who are in fact subordinates of the accused.

According to the investigation data presented in court, the criminal organization formed in Odessa by Boris Kaufman and his partner Oleksandr Borukhovych (former surname Granovskyi) accumulated an average monthly income of UAH 12 million.

Including, they regularly bribed officials of the Odesa City Council. Thus, from November 2021 to August 2022, Oleg Bryndak, deputy mayor of Odesa and chief of staff of the city council, received almost UAH 2.5 million for making decisions and influencing deputies. And Trukhanov's first deputy, Mykhailo Kuchuk, only from March to July 2022, according to the investigation, received UAH 900,000. The deputy mayor of Odesa, Svitlana Bedreza, allegedly handed over UAH 300,000. We are talking only about bribes that were already given during the war

The CPC notes that Kaufman stated in court that he was not present during the search and was very surprised that he was being accused of something. His lawyers asked to check the validity of the detention and to release the client from custody.

At the same time, the NABU demonstrated in court a conversation between another suspect in the Borukhovich-Granovskyi case with an unknown person: “I have 4 NABU cars and 3 DBR cars parked here , they write everything, I'm not dating anyone, I can't tell you some things, why not”.

Among those involved in the case, in addition to Haberdashery, there is also a former prosecutor of Odesa Oblast Oleg Zhuchenko and current mayor of Odesa Hennadiy Trukhanov.
