EU member states have agreed on a plan to reduce gas consumption in order to mitigate the consequences of a possible stoppage of supplies of Russian “blue” fuel, reports DPA on Twitter.

It is stated that the emergency gas plan of the European Union envisages a voluntary reduction of natural gas consumption by 15% from August this year until the end of March next.

Other details of the plan have not yet been announced.

The European Commission announced the need to reduce gas consumption by 15% back in June. At the time, it was noted that the target would initially be voluntary, but would become mandatory if the Commission declared an emergency.

At the same time, last week it became known that the European Union is looking for additional gas supplies from Nigeria , as the bloc is preparing for possible reductions in supplies from Russia.

Researchers from Yale believe that the reduction of gas supplies is much more harmful to Russia than to Europe. From a purely economic point of view, Russia needs the European market more than the world needs Russian energy resources.
