The Hague supported plans to create a tribunal in the city against Russia

The city council declared the readiness of the city to accept such a complex process on its territory.

The Hague supported plans to create a tribunal in the city regarding Russia

Deputies of the City Council of The Hague supported the initiative of the leader of the VVD party (People's Party for Freedom and Democracy) Lotte van Basten Batenburg regardingcreation of a special tribunal for Russia in the city, reports Ukrinform with reference to Mrs. Batenburg. According to her, she worked purposefully to create a special tribunal in the city that would consider the crimes of the Russian Federation in Ukraine, since the International Criminal Court is already located in The Hague and special tribunals were held regarding Rwanda and Yugoslavia.

“We have the experience and international legal infrastructure to host a future special tribunal for Ukraine that will investigate and prosecute the crimes and atrocities committed in this aggressive Russian war,” said Lotte van Basten Batenburg.

According to her, almost all representatives supported her proposal to make efforts to place this special tribunal in The Hague.

“Most likely, it will take a long time to build enough international support to establish the tribunal and then for the tribunal to begin its work. The City of The Hague should fully support this and propose and initiate preparations to host the tribunal. We must make sure that once the special tribunal is officially established, the courtrooms, offices, etc. will be ready for use so that justice can be done,” the party leader said.

At the same time, she added that the sooner after all, the consideration of the Ukrainian issue will require a larger building than the consideration of the tribunals regarding Rwanda and Yugoslavia, since the array of Russian crimes in Ukraine is much larger.
