Iranian drones will not be able to become a serious argument on the battlefield and change the course of the war. This opinion was expressed by the experts of the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) in their report on October 6.
“Russia's use of Iranian-made drones does not create asymmetric effects, as happened with Ukraine's use of US-provided HIMARS systems, and is unlikely to significantly affect the course of the war,” the ISW report says.
Analysts of the institute refer to the deputy chief of the Main Operational Department of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Brigadier General Oleksiy Gromov, who stated during the briefing that Russian troops used against Ukraine in general 86 Iranian Shahed-136 drones, 60% of which have already been destroyed by Ukrainian forces.

Yuriy Ignat, the spokesman of the Air Force Command of Ukraine, said that the Russian army is increasingly using Iranian-made drones in order to maintain stocks of high-precision missiles.
However, ISW suggests that the Russians are likely to have used a small percentage of the Shahed-136s available to them so far, if US intelligence reports that Iran would supply Russia with “hundreds” of drones were correct .
