Most of Europe – almost two-thirds of the region – faced the worst drought in the last 500 years, and the situation may worsen in the future. This was stated by scientists in the report of the joint research center of the European Commission.

The situation is particularly difficult in such countries as Italy, Spain, Portugal, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Romania, Hungary, Serbia , Moldova, Ireland and Great Britain. This is a total of 47% of the continent's territory, and the soil there dried up completely this summer.

Compared to the average figures for the previous five years, the EU forecasts for the harvest of grain corn this year will be lower by 16%, soybeans by 15%, sunflower – by 12%.

It is noted that Ukraine also faced the problem of drought, although the situation is not as critical as in other European countries.

Accordingly, regions that less prone to drought, become more interesting for the development of agrarian business in the future.
