The sun strikes: scientists expect a magnetic storm on Earth

Scientists predict that at the end of the week the Earth may be covered by a “prolonged” magnetic storm that will last for two days. It is connected with the flow of the solar wind, which is rushing towards the planet, reports the space weather tracking site Space weather.

It is noted that the material was ejected from the equatorial hole on our star. It will reach Earth on February 26-27. As a result, scientists are predicting a weak G1 category magnetic storm on the planet.

Scientists also warn that it is turning towards the Earth sunspot AR3234, which is rapidly increasing in size. During the observed period, it became four times larger. It is expected that it can become the source of flares of class M and X.

Magnetic storms are disturbances of the Earth's geomagnetic field with different duration and intensity. They are associated with streams of charged particles emitted by the Sun. Magnetic storms can cause interruptions in communication, as well as affect the well-being of elderly and weather-dependent people. In particular, they may experience headaches, dizziness, nausea, joint pain, fatigue, insomnia.
