The West should stop “asking Putin” for permission to help Ukraine – parliamentarian

Russia still has a reserve to continue the war of attrition.

While the West ponders the range of weapons provided to Ukraine, Russia continues to terrorize Ukraine with missiles, destroying civilian targets instead military, writes Finnish scientist and parliamentarian Jussi Christian Galla-ago.

“For fear of escalation, we do not want to give Ukraine weapons with a sufficient range to hit targets on the territory of Russia. And this is a foolish approach for many reasons. Ukraine needs the range not to attack Russia, but to hit Russian military targets,” the politician writes on Twitter.

After all, Galla-ago emphasizes, it is possible to “hit targets” in Russia with a hand grenade, approaching as close as possible close to the border.

The politician believes that strikes on the launchers of a country waging an aggressive war against another country are legal from a legal, moral and any other point of view.< /p>

“What kind of “aggravation” are we afraid of? That Russia will start bombing Ukrainian cities or infrastructure outside the war zone? What will they try to hit on the supplies of Western partners? wake up Russia is already doing so much that the stock of what has not yet been done is not that big,” he writes.

The parliamentarian believes that Russia can draw “red lines” as much as it wants. , to threaten a nuclear attack and the Third World, but it can't afford to launch a nuclear attack in the same way as other nuclear powers. And the aggressor can afford a conventional war (a war between two or more states – ed.) even less than the West.

“The biggest mistake the West has made since the start of full-scale war is to say publicly what we are not going to do. “We will not introduce troops into Ukraine, we will not send troops, long-range missiles, modern tanks.” These statements give Putin a framework within which he can operate without fear of direct confrontation with the West. He was actually told that he can bomb and destroy Ukraine as much as he wants,” the politician explains.

The parliamentarian believes that the current war in Ukraine and the “Winter War” of 1939-1940 have a lot common.

The Red Army suffered huge losses, but the resources of Finland and the USSR were so incomparable that sooner or later the defending country would simply run out of men and means to continue the defense. p>

Stalin agreed to peace only under pressure from the West, fearing that Great Britain and France would intervene and send troops to Finland, which would mean drawing the USSR into a war that the dictator could not afford.

“We will never know. , whether Great Britain and France were really ready to enter the war. But Stalin was serious about this possibility and that is the main thing. If they repeatedly declared that they would not interfere under any circumstances, perhaps our world would look different,” he emphasizes.

The current Russian dictator does not need to care about his image abroad or popularity at home. The majority of Russians want war regardless of its consequences for others and even for themselves.

The aggressor may run out of modern weapons, but the Soviets have enough reserves to continue the war of attrition. And he has no incentive to stop the war, because the world has made it clear that it will not intervene, the politician believes.

“Conclusion: We must stop asking the aggressor what and how much help we should give to the victim. We must give Ukraine everything we can to help stop the invasion. And then we have to think seriously about how to force Putin to make peace,” Yussi Galla-ago concludes.
