The Dutch foundation Zeilen van Vrijheid will hand over 2,000 bicycles to Ukraine. The decision to allow the transfer of bicycles, which turned out to be abandoned by their owners and stored in the city bicycle storage, was made by the Amsterdam City Council.
It is noted that the request for bicycles came from Ukraine. The bicycles will be given to medics, social workers and volunteers who help the population in the de-occupied territories.
“Zeilen van Vrijheid is pleased to announce our partnership with the municipality of Amsterdam to send 2,000 did not take bicycles to Ukraine. The city council made the decision to give us access to the city bicycle storage and the permission to choose bicycles from there,” the message reads.
Another part of bicycles in the amount of 300 pieces were specially purchased by the fund for transfer to Ukraine.
The first batches of bicycles, provided from Amsterdam, will be distributed among the local communities of Kyiv, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk and Chernihiv regions of Ukraine.
More communities and volunteer organizations will join the program later.
As a reminder, in addition to bicycles, the Netherlands will also provide Ukraine with heavy weapons, armored vehicles and self-propelled howitzers.
The Netherlands joined after a number of other countries to the training program for servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The training began in August.
In addition, in August the Netherlands announced a new aid package to Ukraine for 80 million euros.
