Ukraine is preparing to increase the export of its electricity to Poland several times – “Ukrenergo”

After the restoration of the interconnector between the Ukrainian and Polish power grids, the possibilities of exporting Ukrainian electricity to Europe will increase almost fivefold.

NEC Ukrenergo and the Polish operator of the transmission system PSE SA have started the restoration of the electricity transmission line between Ukraine and Poland. The relevant framework agreement was signed by Volodymyr Kudrytskyi, the chairman of the board of NEC “Ukrenergo” and the president of PSE SA, Eric Klossovskyi.

The restoration of the interstate power transmission line is implemented in accordance with the memorandum between the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine and the Ministry of Climate and Environment of Poland, which was signed in June 2022.

Electricity exports to Poland resumed a few weeks after the synchronization of Ukraine's power system with the power grid of continental Europe and is now 215 MW.

After putting the restored interconnector into operation at the beginning of next year, it can increase the physical possibilities for exporting Ukrainian electricity to Poland by almost 1,000 MW. Ukrainian electricity is a good alternative to Russian gas on the European market,” the message emphasizes.

Previously in an interview with DT.UA, the head of Ukrenergo Volodymyr Kudrytskyi said that trade rules electricity involves transparent competitive auctions, at which companies will be sold access to interstate power transmission lines, which are actually exported or imported. These auctions will be held according to European rules, and any participants who register on the Ukrenergo auction platform will be able to take part in them. Participants who pay the highest price for access will receive it and, accordingly, the opportunity to export electricity.
