Elon Musk, during a presentation held for a narrow circle of invited guests, said that his company Neuralink can start testing a brain chip already within six months. As Reuters points out, the company has already broken the terms of what was called a businessman before.

The company is developing brain chip interfaces that it claims can help disabled patients move and communicate again. Musk also added that the chips will be aimed at restoring vision.

While Neuralink conducted tests on animals, but tried to get permission from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to conduct tests on humans.

“We want to be extremely careful and make sure that the device will work well before we put it in a person,” Musk said.

During the presentation, he also talked about the speed with which the project is being developed. “At first, progress, especially on the human front, may seem painfully slow, but we're doing everything we can to scale it in parallel. So, theoretically, the progress should be exponential,” the businessman noted.

Musk noted that the first functions to which the chip will be used will be restoring vision and providing muscle movement to people who have lost this ability. The businessman noted that with the help of the chip, it will be possible to restore sight to people blind from birth.

The presentation was supposed to take place on October 31, but a few days before the start of the event, it was postponed without explaining the reasons. The FDA did not respond to Reuters' request for comment.

Earlier, Musk said that Neuralink chips would be implanted in people's brains as early as 2022.
