The Council of the European Union will expand the restrictive measures that were previously imposed on Belarus in connection with Russia's military aggression against Ukraine. This is stated in the official journal of the EU.

Restrictive measures include:

  • a ban on the sale, supply or any transfer of banknotes of these national currencies to Belarus, including its Central Bank. This exception also applies to representatives of the diplomatic corps of European countries and international organizations accredited in Belarus.
  • a ban on all road transport belonging to Belarus, which means a ban on any road transport of goods within the European Union and their transit. This prohibition will not apply to postal services, as these services are of universal importance. The ban will take effect on April 16, 2022 for all goods whose transportation began after April 9 from the territory of the European Union, or for transit through the EU to return the relevant vehicles to the territory of Belarus.
  • a ban on the purchase, import or transport into the EU of natural gas and oil, including petrol products, as well as metals such as titanium, aluminum, copper, nickel, palladium and iron ore.
  • a ban on the purchase, import and transportation of pharmacological, medical, agricultural or food products, including grain and fertilizers. Exceptions to this ban will be made only for humanitarian goods, goods for diplomatic and consular missions, international organizations on the territory of Belarus, which have immunity in accordance with international law. The relevant organizations must request permission from the European Commission for such deliveries two weeks before the fact of delivery.
  • The relevant decision of the Council of the EU comes into force upon publication in the Official Journal of the EU.
