Vacation for the New Year: which tours are in demand among Ukrainians

Demand for tours from Ukraine during the New Year holidays fell this year, but there is still a small spike in sales. This is what the travel company Join UP says, writes news.finance.ua.

“The demand for tours has fallen significantly due to two factors: the impossibility of men traveling abroad, as women are not always ready to travel independently, and the increase in the exchange rate currency, which leads to an increase in the cost of tours in hryvnia,” says the founder of the travel agency Kazakov's Travel Marina Kazakova.

“There is good and bad news for us. Good – there is a demand. The bad thing is that it is 10 times smaller than last year. But we don't stop. We are inspired that even during the war, people are ready to realize their dreams, travel, discover something new for themselves,” says Dmytro Yaremkovich, CEO and managing partner of the travel company Eurotrips Ukraine.

Demand for tours “today for tomorrow”

Due to the high level of uncertainty in wartime conditions, Ukrainians rarely make reservations in advance, while operators receive a significant number of requests “today for tomorrow.” This creates certain difficulties – in particular the increase in prices.

“Previously, in order to fix the optimal prices, we booked hotels for the New Year 3-5 months in advance and paid in advance, because we knew the demand and were sure that we could to carry out their plans, – says Yaremkovich. – But during the war, we can understand exactly which directions will be taken only 3-4 weeks before departure.”

In such a situation, it is necessary to agree with the hotels on the postponement of the payment date. And although many hotels are making concessions, better prices still cannot be achieved – the increase in hotel prices is 10-20%.

They began to travel to Ukraine more often

This year, trips to Ukraine took second place in terms of popularity, second only to Egypt, the traditional leader of the past years. This is due to the restrictions on traveling abroad for men of conscription age and the general increase in the interest of Ukrainians in their own country. Priority is given to mountain skiing, Christmas Lviv, medical sanatoriums, peaceful rest in the Carpathians.

Among Ukrainians who in one way or another feel stress related to the war, in 2022 the popularity of rest in sanatoriums has increased. In particular, at the tour operator Join UP in October, the structure of sales of tours in Ukraine was as follows:

  • sanatorium: 44.4%,
  • trips to the Carpathians for the purpose of retreat and recovery: 29% ,
  • mountain skiing destinations: 19.5% (with an increasing trend in the winter period).

Popular countries

For the New Year 2023, the traditional leader in bookings, according to Join UP statistics, remains Egypt, which is characterized by a high level of comfort, a wide selection of hotels, a popular all-inclusive system and an optimal price ratio and quality (you can rest together for 7 nights from UAH 37,055).

Among the new trends in the market in 2022 was the increase in demand for travel to countries that do not issue tourist visas to citizens of Russia. We are talking about the following countries: Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Poland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Finland.
