Kremlin employees ordered to get rid of iPhones - mass media

Employees of the internal political bloc of the administration of the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, were strongly recommended to change their iPhones to smartphones of other brands with a different operating system. It is necessary to change the phone by the end of March, which officials were informed about at the beginning of the month at a seminar in the suburbs of Moscow, writes the Russian newspaper “Kommersant” with reference to several officials who were at the event.

According to one of the interlocutors of the publication, at first there was a discussion among the participants of the seminar about the need for such an event, but the first deputy head of the AP of the Russian Federation Serhiy Kiriyenko said that the iPhone must be replaced by April 1.

Kremlin officials were recommended to switch to smartphones with Android operating systems, Chinese developments based on it, or Aurora OS, developed by a subsidiary of Rostelecom. The source of the publication cited security as the reason for such a step – in the Kremlin, they believe that Apple equipment, compared to other smartphones, is more prone to hacking and espionage, which can be carried out by “Western specialists”.

According to the sources of the publication, similar recommendations officials of regional internal political blocs will also get rid of iPhones.

The publication indicates that the instruction to get rid of iPhones was given to those units of Putin's administration that are supposed to deal with the 2024 elections. At the same time, it is not clear from the text who exactly this order comes from – from Kiriyenko himself, the FSB or military counterintelligence.
