Ukraine could export 60 million tons of grain in eight to nine months if its ports were not blocked, but strike Russia through Odesa portshowed that it will definitely not be so easy, Reuters reports.

Ukraine can earn $10 billion by selling 20 million tons of grain in silos and 40 million tons of new harvest, according to Oleh Ustenko, economic adviser to the President of Ukraine. According to him, the harvest is 60 million tons, of which 20 million are for domestic consumption.

“If we unblocked the ports now and we said that we need to transport 60 million tons of grain… then we would transport 60 million tons of grain in eight to nine months,” he said.

“But given the way they're opening up now and what Russia is doing in the Black Sea, yesterday's strike shows that's definitely not going to happen,” he said.

Russian missiles hit the Odesa port a day after , how Russia and Ukraine, through the mediation of the UN and Turkey, signed an agreement on the opening of Black Sea ports and the resumption of grain exports.

The deal is expected to reduce global food shortages caused by the war.

Ukraine needs 20 to 24 months to export those volumes, he said, if its ports will not work properly.

Earlier it was reported that negotiations by the Office of the President on the export of grain from Ukrainian ports led to the partial lifting of sanctions from Russia in the aviation industry. Instead of the three-way Minsk contact group, Ukraine received a four-way Istanbul contact group with the Russian Federation.
