On Tuesday, December 13, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine approved three draft laws provided for by seven recommendations of the European Commissionon the path of our state to EU membership. In this way, Ukraine fulfilled its obligations and created the prerequisites for the start of negotiations on joining the bloc, Deputy Speaker of the Parliament Olena Kondratyuk said at the conclusion of the meeting.

“Today we adopted three key European integration laws: on media, transparent procedure for appointing judges of the Constitutional Court and on national minorities(communities). Thus, we opened the way to the start of negotiations on Ukraine's full accession to the European Union, which can begin as early as 2023,” she said.

Kondratyuk noted that the mentioned documents were adopted in a constructive atmosphere. According to her words, in this process it was possible to reach a compromise between various factions and parliamentary groups for the sake of the national interests of Ukraine on almost all the main remarks and controversial points.

In addition, the Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada emphasized that the law “On Media” adopted on December 13 will continue to change over time.

“We are aware that the adopted media law is not constant, it will continue to change. Its implementation will require substantive monitoring, both by media circles in Ukraine and by the European Commission for practical compliance with European values ​​of freedom of speech,” Kondratyuk explained.
