The President of the European Commission is convinced of the correctness of granting Ukraine the status of a candidate for EU membership.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen defended her proposal to grant Ukraine EU candidate status . “Ukraine has made huge strides forward,” she told German TV channel ARD, DW reports.

stressed the “moral obligation” to support the country during this period. According to von der Leyen, Ukraine is a “strong parliamentary democracy”, but the European Union wants to see “even more reforms”. This applies in particular to strengthening the rule of law, as well as the fight against corruption and oligarchs.
The European Commission has recommended granting Ukraine the status of a candidate for membership in the European Union on 17 June.
